Jim Urbach > The glorious late evening light on these huge icebergs in Antarctica.
Jim Urbach > Elephant Island. You can see all the chinstrap pengins appearing as specks above the waterline. The clear area to the right is where Sir Ernest Shackleton left his crew of 22 for 137 days til they were rescued. He sailed from here on a 23 foot lifeboat with 5 others with just a sextant to navigate the 800 miles of stormy South Scotia Sea. I took 17 days to get to South Georgia Island where they rested briefly and another 36 hours to climb over the mountains and galciers of the island to reach civilization at Stromnes Bay. Once there the world learned of the sinking of his ship, their miraculous escape to Elephant Island and his trek across the sea and land. Eventaully all of his men were rescued alive.
Jim Urbach > Many king penguins captured just after they came to shore thus their clean coats. Large fur seals are in the background.
Jim Urbach > Zodiac cruise among the huge icebergs in Antarctica in November. Yes the ice really is that blue. Fortunately that huge chunk did not break off.
Jim Urbach > A passenger got on to this iceberg to offer some perspective on it's size.

Jim Urbach > The Endeavour intentionally rammed into the pack ice at Port Lockroy, Antarctica. We were able to walk off the gangplank directly onto the ice.
